Lot 1511
1852-O. PCGS graded MS-63. Boldly struck with light even toning on both sides. The fields are lustrous and pleasing with no handling issues whatsoever. A truly Choice coin that will dazzle any specialist who demands quality. The central devices are crisp and sharp, most of the stars as well save for a couple of the lower ones on the obverse, and as usual the peripheral dentils show some softness. The New Orleans Mint kept striking pressures slightly low (causing weaker dentils) and extending die life. Another factor may have been a worn collar used in striking the coins, which likely accounts for the die roughness at the periphery. Pop 18; 11 finer, 1 in 63+, 8 in 64, 2 in 65. (PCGS # 7520) Value $2,600 - 2,700

Lot 1514
1854. PCGS graded MS-65. A lovely well struck coin. Has lots of eye appeal for this classic Type I design with the small head of Liberty on the obverse. Delicate signs of die clashing are found in the reverse fields. Liberty's hair curls are particular well struck, and the surfaces are ablaze with classic orange gold luster. An impressive example of this important type issue. Pop 43; 28 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7525) Value $1,200 - 1,300

1860-D. NGC graded AU-55. Mostly untoned. Softly struck as usually seen on the UN of UNITED, with peripheral dentils soft on the lower left obverse. However, the central device of Liberty's head is rather sharp, with bold definition on her hair curls. The reverse is attractive for this issue, which is known for some of the poorest quality planchets used by the Dahlonega Mint. In the past, before certification, the tiny mintage of only 1,566 struck allowed for claims of this date and mint being a great rarity with fewer than 20 known. This is has been clearly shown to be an exaggeration, and while this date is not as rare as the 1861-D, it certainly deserves attention with perhaps 100 pieces known today. Here is a collectible high grade example which shows finer high grade detail than often seen. Pop 17; 33 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7556) Value $8,500 - 9,000

Lot 1526
1885. PCGS graded Proof 66 Deep Cameo. CAC. PQ. Lovely rich golden toning. What stands out here at first glance is the amazing contrast between the deep mirror fields and the frosted devices. Further examination confirms how technically fantastic this coin is with virtually no signs of handling or marks. The surfaces are amazing to behold. Despite a rather generous mintage in Proof, there or only a dozen or two that likely qualify with the Deep Cameo designation, as the dies quickly wore away this depth of polish and could only create a few of these Deep Cameo gold dollars. If you enjoy quality, contrast and rarity, then here is one to go after. Only 1,105 struck. Pop 4; 5 finer for Deep Cameo, 2 in 67, 3 in 67+. (PCGS # 97635) Value $14,000 - 15,000
